My First Tag

Vishesh has tagged me! And this is my first tag. Thanks Vishesh. I guess I have to write about things that I do; ‘only’ I do. I guess I a have to write about my odd habits.

Ok. Here is the list:

  1. I have this very odd habit of seeing everything neat and clean. Though my room is the last place you would like to see.
  2. I do Mathematics when I feel bored and when I feel ‘nothingness’. It gets me out of stress. No. I am not a nerd.
  3. I keep downloading different kinds of software. I surf the net, randomly. I just write any word in Google Search and visit all the sites related to my word. Odd! I know.
  4. I get fits regularly. While talking to my friends, I just come up with any random topic, not even remotely related to the current topic. And my friends like it. Wait. It is that they like it or is it that they want to me to finish my talking as fast as possible and get rid of me? Good point. I still don’t know. I need to look into it. Next time, Hasit, keep your eyes open.
  5. I also, sometimes though, do impromptu comedy. Most of the time I am “boooo”ed by my friends. All I say are super boring, harmless pjs. I just don’t get it. Do you?
  6. I dislike talking over the phone. My phone calls last for not more than 5 minutes. And also, I have this habit of solving Math sums over the phone.
  7. Eminem!! I love listening to Em. What’s so odd in that? Isn’t listening for ‘hours’ odd?
  8. This one is very odd. Living up to the real meaning of Quirky. I take out some skin from the part next to my finger-nail and make it sharp. Then, I rub it to my upper lip.
  9. I call my mom by 10 different names. Not names exactly. I just make up words. You won’t find them in any dictionary.
  10. I keep checking my cell phone for calls and messages every few minutes.

Thanks again, Vishesh.

My SSC Result!

After waiting for precisely 3 months, I finally got my SSC result.

I got 88.15% overall. I was expecting 85%+. I am happy. Or should I say, content. And I scored 144/150 in Mathematics. Expected 147. But… never mind. Afterall, it’s SCC.

Situation right now:

  • Call 1: “Hi” say I on phone. “How much?” a general question by everyone. “88.15%”. “Congratulations!!” say they. And in hurry “Catch you later. I am getting an another call.” I say.
  • Call 2(at the same time): “Hello… 88.15%.” “Congrats.” “Thanks.”
  • Call 3(in the next second): “Hey… Thanks.”
  • Call 4: “Thank you. Gotta go. Gaurav’s calling.”

And the ‘hello’s and the ‘hi’s go on.

Later, 4 people call me up and ask me if I could find out their result. When I try to open the site it bluntly says in a white page “The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site’s configured capacity.” Crap! Our government SSC Result sites could (or, should) apply for a Guinness World Record for the maximum number of visits in a day.

What are you waiting for? At least congratulate me. How ill mannered of you. Haha. Just joking.

A Crime Story

Victim: Hasit Mistry

Accused: Trigonometry, Calculus, Kinematics, Mole Concept.

Charge: Forcing the victim to use his brain continuously, extensively, for long hours.

Witness: Victim’s pen, notebook.

My preparations for IIT-JEE have started already. I hardly got to enjoy my vacation. But can’t even cry over it. It was my own choice. I dreamt of getting into IIT ever since I was a kid; a kid who hardly knew what IIT was. I wanted go there just because my cousin went for it. Now, I have my own reasons.

I basically have to study Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in detail. These subjects are my favourite as there is no mugging involved. Understand and apply. I’ll tell you a secret. I once failed in Geography in my school test.

Math Books

The only disadvantage that comes along with so much studies is that I have to use the thing in my thick skull a bit more than usual. It’s pretty obvious. After all it’s for IIT. I have started calculating the height of buildings and speed of cars and buses around me. I blame it all on Trigonometry and Kinematics.

Data Overload. There is not enough space left to store new items.
Do you want to delete a few of the old items?
Yes. No.

Multiply a Number by 11 in Your Head

Do you get frustrated when your teacher asks you to multiply big numbers by 11?
This is the simplest way you can multiply any number by 11 using nothing but your mind.

Case 1 : 2 digit number (addition result<10) x 11
[e.g. 1]
14 x 11

Put 1 and 4 leaving a gap in between – 1 4

Add 1 and 4
1 + 4 = 5

Put 5 between 1 and 4.

Therefore,
14 x 11 = 154

[e.g. 2]
63 x 11

Put 6 and 3 leaving a gap in between – 6 3

Add 6 and 3
6 + 3 = 9

Put 9 between 6 and 3.

Therefore,
63 x 11 = 693

Case 2 : 2 digit number (addition result>10) x 11
[e.g. 1]
55 x 11

Put 5 and 5 leaving a gap in between – 5 5

Add 5 and 5
5 + 5 = 10

Put 10 between 5 and 5.
Add the 1 in the tens place of 10 to 5 of the tens place of 55.

Therefore,
55 x 11
= (5+1)05
= 605

[e.g. 2]
94 x 11

Put 9 and 4 leaving a gap in between – 9 4

Add 9 and 4
9 + 4 =13

Put 13 between 9 and 4.
Add the 1 in the tens place of 13 to 9 in the tens place of 94.

Therefore,
94 x 11
= (9+1)34
= 1034

This trick can be used on any number when multiplying by 11. Isn’t it great?

Hasit makes it simple!
